Attorneys, social workers, undergraduates, students, or those simply looking to make a difference — by volunteering their time and talents — provide direct support to The Legal Aid Society’s staff and clients. Volunteers and interns provide both legal and non-legal assistance, allowing The Legal Aid Society’s attorneys to represent people who would otherwise be turned away due to lack of staff resources.
Law Students
are able to appear in court, under a practice order and supervision of staff attorneys, and provide legal representation and counseling to qualified applicants. This internship/volunteer opportunity allows individuals to sharpen the following skills:
Research
Document production
Interviewing
Court representation
Social Work Students
work under the supervision of an LCSW-R, providing support to the attorneys in the Attorney for the Child Program. This internship/volunteer opportunity allows individuals to sharpen the following skills:
Research
Interviewing
Home visits
Generate reports detailing recommendations to the attorney
Undergraduate Students
and those interested in the legal field work under the supervision of a staff legal assistant and provide support to program attorneys. This internship/ volunteer opportunity allows individuals to sharpen the following skills:
Interviews
Document preparation
Data entry
Court errands
Filing
